Dentists have proven that the teeth of our ancestors were much healthier than ours. First, they ate less often. Just two to three times a day. The rest of the time, and acid-base balance was naturally maintained in the oral cavity - a medium that protects teeth. Secondly, the teeth were heavier, as the food was harder. The 20th century introduced fractional nutrition into fashion: we constantly chew, have a bite to eat, and drink tea and coffee with sugar in short breaks. So, the second cause of diseases of our teeth is the lack of load, because all the food is soft, boiled. But only with a masticatory load, the gum tissue is adequately supplied with blood and oxygen. The teeth should work at least one and a half to two hours a day. We usually provide the teeth with chewing training no longer than forty minutes a day. Do not forget that not one of the most expensive prostheses can replace a healthy tooth. Therefore, it is time to revise the methods of dental care and monitor them constantly. Soft plaque, enveloping the teeth, is the root cause of the formation of stones and caries. The risk of its occurrence is reduced tenfold in compliance with daily oral hygiene.
We list 10 important, in our opinion, tips for maintaining healthy teeth.
1. Dentists several decades ago refused recommendations to brush their teeth horizontally. This method was replaced by no more tricky recommendations to brush your teeth in the direction of their growth, up and down, that is, vertically. Modern dentists have proven that this method is not ideal. Using it, only a quarter of the harmful bacteria is removed. The latest technique is called "gradual toothbrushing." The entire row of teeth is conventionally divided into six sectors-segments, which are brushed alternately. First, it is necessary to “loosen” the plaque on the teeth of one sector with vibrating circular movements, and then clean the same teeth with the usual vertical movements. And circular and vertical movements should capture not only the tooth itself but also the gum. Having cleared one sector, proceed to remove plaque from another.
2. It is ideal to brush your teeth after each meal and for at least five minutes. In extreme cases, you can reduce this procedure to three minutes, but no less.
3. Many of us believe that the effect will increase if you brush your teeth noticeably. In vain. It can only damage fragile enamel. The main principle in cleaning teeth is to gently brush each tooth from all sides. Bacteria that remain on the lateral or internal surfaces, after an hour will spread over the entire surface of the tooth.
4. Toothbrushing is not replaced by fashionable mouthwashes after a meal. Of course, they disinfect the mucous membrane of the mouth, strengthen the gums and eliminate bad breath. However, they are not able to remove plaque remaining from food that destroys teeth.
5. Today in civilized countries, a brush is purchased only on the advice of a dentist. Rigid is necessary for strong gums and teeth, on which plaque and stone quickly form. With delicate and damaged enamel, you can use only brushes with soft bristles or designed for children's teeth. The most popular brushes are medium-hard. They are quite sparing in relation to tooth enamel and quite well clean the surface of the teeth without injuring the gum tissue. When used three times a day, the brush lasts no more than four months. If you use it twice a day, then you need to change it once every six months. The most effective brush with a raised bristle protrusion. Its raised rows penetrate deep between the teeth, removing plaque in the interdental spaces.
6. The change should not only brushes, but also toothpaste. A comprehensive therapeutic effect is exerted by pastes with various additives. Twice a year for a month and a half it is effective to brush your teeth with fluoride pastes. Periodontic toothpaste is useful not only as therapeutic. They have a preventive effect.
7. Whitening toothpaste can be used no more than twice a week. With more frequent use, such toothpaste harm enamels.
8. After a plentiful meat dinner, it is advisable to brush your teeth not with a paste that does not always cope well with plaque, but with tooth powder. The composition of the tooth powder includes chalk containing calcium. It has a beneficial effect on the condition of the teeth and oral cavity. Those women who are prone to smoking habits are advised to replace the paste with tooth powder.
9. Modern advanced dentistry has begun to treat dental floss with more caution. The fact is that dental floss often injures the gums, which provokes diseases of the interdental papillae. This leads to the appearance of periodontal disease, especially in those who are predisposed to it. If the teeth are rarely located, then the floss is completely meaningless, since the brush will perfectly clean the teeth.
And if the teeth are an indivisible monolith, then the thread, implanted with force, can damage both the gum and enamel. The thread should be very thin. The finer the thread, the better. You should not use the thread daily, and even more so after each meal. But after taking hard meat food, it is worth cleaning the interdental crevices with its help if the thread passes between the teeth effortlessly.
10. Chewing gum is applicable only in one case - if there are no chronic diseases of the gums in the oral cavity and not a single tooth is filled. In this case, it is not harmful and even useful in the sense of muscle development of the jaw. The chewing gum sticking to the teeth is capable of “shaking” any of the strongest fillings.
